A Slave In Rome

Kurt Hoyer

September 28, 2018

This sermon was given at the Emerald Coast Convention Center in Ft. Walton Beach, FL during the 2018 Feast of Tabernacles observance sponsored by Common Faith Network.

Kurt states “Unwanted at birth and left to die, Junia grows up as a Roman household slave. What are the challenges she faces in this role? What can her life teach us about freedom, and responsibility? She abandons the gods of Rome for a simple religion following a crucified savior. She finds new meaning in life as she, the lowest of the low in Roman society, leads a dedicated yet persecuted group fearing for their very lives if they are discovered. How can slaves become kings and priests?”

Kurt and Jennifer Hoyer attend with United Church of God, Northern Virginia. Kurt serves as a Diplomat at the U.S. Department of State where he specializes in African and Middle Eastern issues.
